“…we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon you.” (2 Chronicles 20:12b)
You travel your mind in desperation, feet pounding the well-worn pathways of thought, eyes searching the horizon for an answer, a solution, an escape plan. Your travels only yield sore feet and the bleeding of hope from long-open wounds.
You are running in circles. Stop. You will discern no answer, no solution, no escape plan on your own. Only He knows the way, is the way.
This battle is not yours to fight. This battle is the Lord’s. You must get dressed, take position, face your enemies, but He will fight. Sing of His strength, sing of His love, sing‑and watch Him act.
Blessed are you among women, you whose strength is so small, whose vision is so poor, whose ability is so meager. For when the path clears and the way is sure‑you’ll know it was His hand, not yours, His wisdom, not your conspiring, His strength, not your striving.
Only fix your eyes on Him and marvel as He takes your hand and leads you to freedom in the land to which He is the only way.
During one of the darkest times in my life, I was reminded of how God acted on His people’s behalf when they faced enemies far too strong for them. Their king—Jehoshaphat—spoke one of the simplest yet most profound declarations of trust when faced with almost certain defeat: “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you” (2 Chronicles 20:12b).
⠀
God delivered His people from their impossible situation, and He delivered me from mine. ⠀
⠀
Whatever impossible situation you are facing, take heart—“Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides [Him] who acts on behalf of those who wait for Him” (Isaiah 64:4).
